Harijan Sevak Sangh was relevant in 1932 to save the society from disintegration, it is relevant even today to strengthen social fiber by creating mutual trust between the different castes to have a society based on humanity. Harijan Sevak Sangh can also play a vital role to empower the young boys & girls particularly belonging to Scheduled caste by providing them vocational training, financial assistance, marketing network and technology input from the existing schemes initiated by the Govt. of India, a road map can be prepared to achieve this goal. Harijan Sevak Sangh is founded by Mahatma Gandhi, nourished by The Mahatma Gandhi,therefore, it has a great responsibility in establishing an egalitarian and democratic society and Nation as a whole.

Residential Schools

Bapa Ashram School & Kasturba Balika Vidyalaya Bapa Ashram Residential Primary School is running in the Harijan Sevak Sangh Campus since 1966. Children both boys and Girls stay and study here. After completing 5th standard in the Campus of Harijan Sevak Sangh, the girls go to Kasturba Balika Vidyalaya at Ishwar Nagar, Okhla, New Delhi up to 10 + 2 standard run by Harijan Sevak Sangh. These two schools, one primary school at Kingsway Camp, and another 10+2 school at Ishwar Nagar are great source of learning to the children of scheduled caste communities. 250 children boys and girls are staying and studying in the Campus of Harijan Sevak Sangh. 250 girls are staying and studying in Kasturba Balika Vidyalaya. In addition to that about 500 girls are day scholars. At both the places Hostel facility is provided with the help of Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Govt. of India. Bapa Ashram School is aided by Municipal Corporation of Delhi under 95% grant in aid scheme 10+2 school for girls at Okhla is aided by the Delhi administration under 95% grant in aid scheme. Hostel facilities at both the places are financially helped by Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India.

Extra curricular activities like celebrating National day, National Festivals, Birth Anniversaries of National Heroes, Games, Sports etc etc. are the major attractions of this school. In addition to this 15 Residential Primary Schools in different States are also working to provide education to Schedule Caste in general and scavengers children in particular. This activity is being supported by the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Govt. of India. Not only that, State branches with the help of state Govt. are also running Residential Schools for Schedule caste especially children belonging to scavengers community.

States like Maharashtra, Gujarat, M.P., Chhattisgarh, Tamilnadu, UttarPradesh, are leading in this field. Schools are run by the state branches with the financial assistance from state Govts. The experience of Harijan Sevak Sangh in the field of education shows that if the children are given education with constructive approach they can prove their worth.
